When I moved into the little house at 143 Maravista Avenue a number of years ago, there was not a plant to be seen anywhere… in fact, there wasn’t even a lawn! But I felt that this little Cape Cod house had good bones and that with a bit of tender loving care, coupled with a heavy helping hand of imagination, I could make this house my home.
The first thing I set about doing was planting lawns, and immediately after that, of course, there needed to be flowers, lots and lots and lots of flowers! I don’t mind having annuals in pots; in fact, they’re lovely during the season, but there’s nothing that beats a perennial for beauty and ease of care. For me, endless summer hydrangeas fit the bill perfectly. So I planted a couple of these lovely flowers in my garden and then… I don’t know what happened, but something just overtook my normal reason, and the next thing I knew, I had 40 hydrangea plants in my yard! I love them, I love everything about Hydrangeas! My favorite color is blue, and starting in June, my yard is a sea of blue blooms that bring me immense joy!
Gardening is a passion for many people, and gardeners on Cape Cod have a special love for hydrangeas. These beautiful and versatile plants are a staple in many Cape Cod gardens, and for good reason - they are easy to care for, can thrive in a range of conditions, and produce stunning blooms that last for months. One reason gardeners on Cape Cod love hydrangeas is their versatility. There are several species of hydrangea, each with distinct characteristics. Some varieties, such as the popular Nikko Blue and Endless Summer, produce large, showy blooms in shades of blue, pink, or white. Others, like the Oakleaf hydrangea, have beautiful foliage that turns a stunning shade of red in the fall. No matter what your preference, there is a hydrangea that will fit perfectly in your garden here on The Cape. Ultimately, the beauty and versatility of hydrangeas are why they remain a favorite among gardeners on Cape Cod.
